Are You Hot or Cold?

Modern evangelism intentionally leaves out many biblical truths because they may disturb or offend humanity, including the knowledge of mankind’s sinful nature which is necessary; it is this discovery that leads them towards repentance  (Source: Apologetics & Evangelism Free Online Course 1, Introduction: The use of Apologetics in Evangelism).

As a child, did you ever play a game in which a person would say, “You’re getting warmer,” as you approached something that was hidden? Jesus wants to make known unto us the unsearchable riches of Christ – the mysteries of His kingdom. How shall we receive knowledge from His omnipotence if we refuse to grow up in the word?

1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.” 1 Corinthians 3:1-2 KJV

Essential Thought

Scripture Foundation

In the book of Revelation, Christ repeated the following phrase seven times:

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (Revelation 2:7; 2:11; 2:17; 2:29; 3:6; 3:13; 3:22)

Each instance is either followed or preceded by a promise to, “him that overcometh.”

Declaration

The Message

The unadulterated Gospel, though some would deny the fact, is well served when its messenger makes plain the choice that all are given from God: holiness or hell. Brimstone is not the new coal – fuel for the fanatic fire of so called charismatics who want to “scare sinners straight.” Brimstone is simply the element God said would be present in the lake of fire.

7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:7 KJV

“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.” Revelation 19:20 KJV

“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Revelation 20:10 KJV

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:15 KJV

Our society has become accustomed to versatile products and all manner of things including lifestyles that are interchangeable. From pants and shorts and skirts to skorts. Like so, we see people looking for an equally reversible Gospel, which they can readily change from incorruptible to spotted like the world. For this cause, we see souls jumping from church to church with no grounding, unwilling to bear sound doctrine, sowing discord among the bretheren, itching to hear the latest tract so long as it does not call for self-assessment and certainly not reflective thought. Desire for a have-it-your way faith is a weakness that is diluting the Gospel presentation. This should not be so if we want to live in the new heaven and new earth.

Revelation 21:1-8 KJV

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

I remember the words of a hymn, which exposed a heart willing to be led of God. Search me Lord. If you find anything that shouldn’t be, take it out and strengthen me. I want to be right. I want to be saved. I want to be whole.

The rebellious heart, however, is more concerned with pointing fingers at others who will not do God’s will, than taking up his or her own cross. The believer’s walk of faith shoul not be like frappachino – a hot drink that went cold. When you drink it in, you end up with a headache. God is not pleased with a fast-food  faith mentality. NO, you can’t have it your way. You have to learn how to do what thus saith the Lord. And He said,

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Revelation 3:15-22 KJV
