Key people

Here is a list of key people found in today’s reading (in order of appearance) with bios from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

God. The Creator of all mankind.
Job. God’s faithful servant. “Job is presented as a good and prosperous family man who is beset by Satan with God’s permission with horrendous disasters that take away all that he holds dear, including his offspring, his health, and his property. He struggles to understand his situation and begins a search for the answers to his difficulties.”

Today’s Devotional Reading:  Job 41 – 42

Job 41 Amplified Version (AMP)
Job 42 Amplified Version (AMP)

In today’s reading, Job comes face to face with the God he had heard about for his entire life – the God of his fathers. Job repents for speaking against God’s power. He admits that God is able to do anything and cannot be surmounted.

When Job’s test finally ends, he is the one God endorses. God requires the three friends of Job to bring a sacrifice and ask Job to pray for them. God retracts Job’s painful losses when Job prays for his friends who rebuked him.

All of Job’s family and friends visit Job and bring him gifts. God gives Job double reparations for all he has lost.

The Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Job 42:10 AMP

Reflection

Job was tested because Satan has a chip on his shoulder. God had faith in Job that he would not turn against Him even if Satan was allowed to afflict his very life. Even when Satan tempted Job’s wife, Job resisted temptation to curse God. However, Job did have moments of weakness as most people would if they lost everything.

I am so grateful for a promise of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, and double for your trouble, as reparation for all that has befallen you.

61 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:1-3 KJV

For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them. Isaiah 61:7 KJV
